A Timeless Stay at the Quayside Hotel, Simon’s Town

Where history, hospitality, and harbour views meet

During our recent trip to Cape Town, we had the pleasure of staying at the Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel, a landmark that has long served as a focal point in the charming coastal town of Simon’s Town.

As a child visiting the Cape, I often admired the Quayside from afar, thinking it looked impossibly elegant. Little did I know that years later, I’d find myself enjoying its comforts as a guest.

The hotel is tastefully furnished, with historical photographs lining the walls that pay homage to Simon’s Town’s rich naval and maritime heritage. Many of these images feature Just Nuisance, the beloved Great Dane who famously served in the South African Navy and remains an icon of the town’s past.

Unforgettable Views and Heartwarming Moments

The Quayside Hotel has two floors, and we were fortunate enough to stay on the second. Our room overlooked the ocean, offering a view that never got old. We spent many happy hours watching sea tours launch from the pier and young, aspiring fishermen being coached by their fathers. It was a heartwarming and distinctly local touch that made our stay feel all the more special.

Each room is equipped with thoughtful amenities including air-conditioning, a tea and coffee station, mini bar fridge, digital safe, flat-screen TV with select DStv channels, complimentary Wi-Fi, and toiletries. Guests can choose between sea-facing or mountain-facing rooms, some with balconies overlooking the harbour.

Breakfast is served at the adjacent Bertha’s Restaurant, a much-loved local establishment with a relaxed seaside atmosphere. A generous continental selection - —muffins, fresh fruit, cheeses, and cured meats - is available, alongside a cooked breakfast menu with everything from eggs on toast to hearty omelettes.

A Base to Explore the Best of Simon’s Town

Located on Jubilee Square, the hotel is part of the Quayside Waterfront Centre, surrounded by restaurants, curio shops, and cafés. It’s a short distance from local attractions such as the South African Naval Museum and the famous Boulders Beach, home to a beloved colony of African penguins. Whether you’re exploring town or simply soaking up the views from your balcony, everything feels right on your doorstep.

What stood out most was the exceptional value for money. With attentive service, stunning views, and quality facilities, the Quayside Hotel offers a top-notch experience that hasn’t priced itself out of the South African market - something we truly appreciated.

If you’re planning a trip to the Cape and looking for accommodation with character, charm, and soul, I highly recommend the Simon’s Town Quayside Hotel.
